Speaker: Astrid Madimba
Astrid was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo and grew up in the UK. She identifies as British and Congolese but has struggled with connecting to her African heritage, having lived in the UK most of her life. Astrid’s search for a greater connection to her African heritage led to the formation of It’s a Continent, a podcast that seeks to support others in their search for a better understanding of African history. Chinny identifies as British-Nigerian. She was born in the UK and enjoyed history at school, particularly modern history. However, a lot of the content taught only scratched the surface when it came to black history – which is a disservice as black history is also everyone’s history. Chinny’s discontent led her to agree to form It’s a Continent podcast with her co-host and friend, Astrid.
